BOOK THIS TOUR
See only the highlights of the Northern Territory’s famous Larapinta Trail, with no need to worry about logistics, food drops, or carrying heavy backpacks. This tour is aimed at the mature market of travellers, offering creature comforts like walk-in touring tents with off the ground beds and deluxe camping mattresses, and two nights at the beautiful Glen Helen Homestead overlooking Glen Helen Gorge.
Day One | Meet at the Aurora Hotel in Alice Springs at 7:30am. |
You’ll be transferred to Stanley Chasm and then on to Ellery Creek Big Hole for a short walk and morning tea.
Back in the air-conditioned 4WD bus, you’ll head to Ormiston Gorge, where you’ll up onto a high escarpment with spectacular views before returning to The Pound for lunch. The afternoon is spent walking through the gorge, spotting wildlife and diverse vegetation along the way. Don’t forget to pack your swimmers.
Return to the campsite to find your stand-up touring tent erected and luggage waiting inside. Relax as a delicious dinner served with Australian wine is prepared for you.
Day Two | Set off early for a 16 kilometre return hike to the summit of Mount Sonder to watch a glorious sunrise, returning via the same trail. Note: An easier walk is on offer for those not up to conquering Mount Sonder. This is the most difficult day of walking, and each day’s difficulty will gradually decrease from here. |
Return to the campsite to enjoy another delicious dinner served with Australian wine. Sleep off the hard day’s walk in your off-ground bed with deluxe camping mattress.
Day Three | Today you’ll walk from the campsite to Glen Helen Homestead (your accommodation for the next two nights), taking in Red Mallee forests, wildflowers (at certain times), views to Mount Sonder in the distance, and the Finke River. |
After settling in you can take a quick stroll to Glen Helen Gorge or take a swim in the pool. Then enjoy pre-dinner drinks, and a cheese platter overlooking the gorge. For dinner, you’ll head to the restaurant for an a-la-carte meal in the homestead. Retire to your room with ensuite and reverse cycle air conditioning after dinner.
Day Four | Set off after breakfast to hike another section of the Larapinta Trail, from Eagles Landing to Counts Point, taking in views to Mount Sonder and Mount Zeil along the way. After lunch you’ll descend the range into the plains to finish the day’s walk at Serpentine Gorge Chalet. |
Transfer back to Glen Helen Homestead.
Day Five | Start the day with the shortest hike of the tour, a 4 kilometre track along the song line of the Arrente Track from Ochre Pits, which connects to Inarlanga Pass. You’ll walk through the Inarlanga Gorge, where the bright red walls of the gorge contrast against the green fronds of the McDonald Ranges Cycads. |
Return to the start point of your hike to meet the bus and return to Alice Springs for a celebratory drink before parting ways with the group. |
