Rawnsley Park Station, at the southern end of the Flinders Ranges, is the perfect place to base yourself for five days of guided hiking. You’ll be accompanied on this tour by bushwalking author Kym Tilbrook, who has been walking in the Flinders Ranges for over 40 years. He’ll take you deep into the Ranges on several day hikes, and you’ll even get to climb to Rawnsley Bluff for a glorious sunrise. Return to Rawnsley Park Station each night for a delicious dinner and relax in your Holiday Unit or Eco Villa.

  • Walking distance: 9 – 21 kilometres per day
  • Difficulty: A moderate level of fitness is required to complete this walk. Please do some training before you arrive. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the trip.
  • Child friendly: Yes. Not recommended for children under 12.
  • Accommodation is available for partners or other group members who don’t wish to walk. Please enquire below.


Day One Depart Rawnsley Park Station at 7.30am to walk the Heysen Trail from Wilpena Resort to Bridle Gap. The trail crosses the floor of Wilpena Pound before an easy climb to Bridle Gap, providing views of the Elder Range and the Hills of Arkaba. Return to Wilpena Resort via Wangarra Lookout (15km). An optional climb to Mt Olsson-Bagge (6km) or return to Rawnsley Park Station.
Day Two Depart at 7am for the short drive to Wilpena Resort. Start walk to St Mary Peak via the centre of the pound at about 7.30am. Morning tea is at Cooinda Camp, and any hiker may return to Wilpena via the Pound floor (12km). From here we begin our ascent of St Mary Peak for magnificent – to the west is the shimmering Lake Torrens, a vast salt pan and to the north view the Heysen Range, Bunyeroo Valley and the ABC Range. Our trek back to Wilpena is via the Outside Track (21km).
Day Three Depart Rawnsley Park Station reception at 8.00am to drive an hour north to Parachilna Gorge. Walk to the Blinman Pools starts about 9.30am. This is a delightful walk with no climbing (12km). In the afternoon, we return via Blinman for a coffee at the General Store and stop at the Appealina Ruins (pastoral and Mining heritage).
Day Four Depart Rawnsley Park Station reception 8.00am for the drive to Bunyeroo Valley and the Wilcolo Track. Start the 9-kilometre walk at about 9.00am. An optional afternoon return walk to Bunyeroo Gorge Geological Trail is also available (8km).
Day Five Depart Rawnsley Park Station reception at 4.15am. Walk to the top of Rawnsley Bluff to watch the sunrise over the Flinders Ranges. Return via Highlife Trail to a bush breakfast celebrating the end of the tour. Return to your accommodation about 11.00am. Late checkout of 12.30pm.
